This post is reblogged from my original post @ amritafoss.in

It’s Jackson Isaac posting about Firefox OS mini app days Hackathon.

As a part of the main event ‘Firefox OS MiniApp Days‘ on 4th August 2013, we the members of foss@amrita and also other Amritaites had a mini hackathon kinda event on 28th July,2013 to get familiar with Firefox OS, and tools required to create an app for it. HTML, JS and CSS are the primary languages we need to know in-order to create an app for Firefox OS, which itself is based on HTML. It is like a fully functional web browser running on your device.

10:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Day started with Aditya sir’s session on HTML in the CAD Lab. It was really great and informative. We all created out own HTML using sublime text editor which is a very powerful editor for developers just like Eclipse. He covered topics from the very basic to intermediate level which really helped everyone during the Hackathon. He also shared few cool websites to learn HTML and CSS[1].

12:30PM – 1:30PM: The next session was on CSS. Durga took this session. She had prepared a cool presentation, and she explained everything in very simple way so that everyone could understand it. Even ECE students were there and they too understood about CSS. She had some assignments uploaded on her university server space which were really good.

*1:30 PM – 2:30 PM Lunch break

2:30 PM – 6:00 PM: The next session was completing courses on HTML, CSS and JS on CodeAcademy. It was like a preparation session where everyone tried out their skills from the previous sessions on HTML and CSS.

6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Tina and Tony explained about Firefox OS and a short tutorial on ‘How to Create an app for Firefox OS’.

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Hackathon started and we had to create a simple BMI calculator. Everyone did their best, there were some bugs in code and everyone tried to figure it out and fix them. Whoever completes the BMI calculator app successfully were going to get some sweets.

8:00 PM: Hackathon ended and Bhagya and me completed the task of creating the app and we both got KitKat chocolates 🙂

In the end it was a great experience and a wonderful job done by our FOSS@Amrita members in organizing everything.
